Ingredients
- 2# ground beef (typically 80%)
- 2c cooked rice
- 2 eggs
- 3 onions, chopped
- 3” square fat back, chopped (salt pork may be substituted)
- 1 large head cabbage (should feel heavy)
- Canned condensed tomato soup
- Salt and pepper to taste
Method
-
Saute fat back and, when starting to brown, add onions and cook until tender.
-
Mix meat, rice, eggs, salt, pepper and about ⅔ of onion mixture.
-
Remove core of cabbage. Steam whole head in a small amount of water until leaves peel away easily.
-
Sprinkle salt inside a leaf, place a spoonful of meat mixture near the base and roll up.
-
Place rolls in baking pan (preferably one with cover. If no cover, use foil in step 8).
-
Dilute soup with a small amount of water and pour over glambki in pan.
-
Spread remaining onion mixture on top. (Babci then scattered strips of the cabbage core over this.)
-
Cover and bake at 325F for 2-3 hours. If you prefer the top browned, uncover for the last ½ hour.
